I had the opportunity to work on a dodge intrepid this weekend and I am astounded how the engine is designed. A water pump is designed to have a port that will leak under the vehicle signaling that the pump needs to be changed. On the Intrepid the pump leaks into the crankcase which will cause severe damage to the engine. In addition the water pump is behind the timing chain so changing the pump is a huge task. The only reason that I can fine that the engine was engineered this way is so vehicle owners would take the vehicle back to the dealer for repair.
I can tell you that I will not purchase a Dodge/Chrysler product because of this design.
This is a Jeep related question, but I believe they have the same layout as a Chrysler/Dodge vehicle. Recently, the Anti Lock Braking system light, as well as the Electronic stability sensor lights have been staying on when I start my 09 Jeep Compass. I've also noticed that the cruise control has stopped working, as well as the fog lights.
ReplyDeleteHowever, when I was driving last night, the ABS and ESP lights when off, and the cruise control and fog lights were working fine. Does this sound like a bad sensor or fuse? Or do you think it could be something more serious--like a computer malfunction?
I've called the shop about my issue and they are telling me it's going to cost $70 just to diagnose the issue. I would like to have an idea of what it could be before I take it in so maybe I can save that money and also avoid being taken advantage of by a mechanic like I have in the past.
Thanks!
Annie
Thanks for posting your issue with your Jeep. Just with the information that you gave I dont think the problem is a fuse. I think it may be a sensor with the ABS and ESP lights. There is a steering wheel sensor along with a brake sensor that can get confused and trip the light. One way to correct the steering wheel sensor is in a stopped position turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and hold for 5 seconds. The turn the steering wheel all the way to the right for 5 seconds. Then return the steering wheel to the netural position or so the vehicle would be driving straight. This will re-adjust the sensor. After driving for a short distance the light should go off. If not the sensor may need to be replaced.
ReplyDeleteI will need a little more information on the fog lamps and cruize control. If a fuse was bad they would not start working again. So is there a relationship when they were not working such as the fog lamps will not work with the head lights on? Please let me know.
